Surnames: LAYMAN
Sam was born on January 16, 1873, and died May 13, 1918. I don’t know for sure where he was born, but Lula his granddaughter said they came from Tennesse, up around Soddy Daisy. Sam married Nancy Neal. She was born on October 23,1873 and died September 19, 1955. Their old home place was in Pickens Co. Ga., just outside the town of Jasper. I went there with Lula his granddaughter, and Oma his Daughter-in-law in August of 1998. All that is left is the foundation for the spring house. The old home place was about two or three miles out side of Jasper on Cove road. I believe it was next to the first bridge out of town. The address across the road was 1514 Cove road. Sam and Nancy owned about 175 acres. He mined flagstones and sold them for building materials. Sam and Nancy had eight children. They were, Johnny, Jim, Sam Jr., Pearl, Mable, Walter, Reaner, and Lizzie. Sam and Nancy are buried in Murry Co. Ga. In Mt.Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. This is near Chatsworth Ga. Sam hab a sister named Carolyna. She married a Hughes ???? If any one knows this line of Layman’s please let me know. I need Sam and Nancy’s parents names.

SURNAMES: THE NIGHT RIDERS OF PICKENS COUNTY
QRYTEXT: Could anyone give me the names of the men who were arrested for involvement with the vigilante group “The Honest Man’s Friend and Protector”, which was referred to as the HMF&P. Information I have is there were seven men arrested and tried in 1890. I would like to know the names of these individuals, as it is possible my great grandfather may have been involved with the group. John Turner left GA circa 1889 and indicated to family later in life he had to leave GA. I found information on this vigilante group in The Night Riders of Pickens County by Robert S. Davis, Jr.., very fascinating reading. Thanks for any information.
